RESULTS

This Saturday 15th June of 2019 is the election day for choosing the next representative and image of the building for the following year. There are 3 major parties proposing themselves as candidates, being those: THE SWIMMING POOL PARTY; THE FOUNTAIN PARTY; CARPET CHESS PARTY. The electoral plan proposals are displayed in each propaganda poster.

Visitors are welcome to, from their opinion, vote to the party that better represents the building.

THE CLOISTERS in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire in the UK was built in 1905 as an open-air school dedicated to Psychology and where students were taught skills from the Arts and Crafts movement. Every brick and decorative element had an individual unique aesthetic, ideology and opinion, as well as being artist themselves, the reason why this building turned one of the most intellectual points in the city of Letchworth. After World War II it became a Masonic house, and now it is a point of reunion for artist around the UK every year at the annual The Cloisters’ Exhibition organised and curated by Chantelle Stephenson.

The electoral plan proposals are displayed in bullet points on the third page of this document. Visitors are welcome to, from their opinion, vote to the party that better represents the building.

However, before starting this electoral day we must be warned on the following situation:

//THE REFERENDUM//

For the last 20 years, the top of one of the towers of the building it is been damage for pigeon poop and that territory is out of use for safety reasons. The project to repair the tower has been mentioned several times at the building parliament but so far has not been approved yet.

The lower part of the tower, along with a small consequent corner have joined forces and present an independence referendum of self-government. Negatively the top part is not contributing to the general wealth, very opposite it has been using the structural resources of the lower tower ( as it relays on the structure of this territory) for the last 20 years. Therefore, after years of help and access to this area, the bricks and steps of the Lower Tower called internal voting on May 23rd, making it match with the European elections, obtaining the following results:

52% vote for LEAVING

48% vote for STAYING

78% Bricks ABSTAIN TO VOTE

WHAT NEXT?

The LOWER TOWER government claims the respect of the referendum as the result of it was POSITIVE and the decision of the bricks must be respected by all parts of the central government

The Lower Tower has taken the decision to create a border breaking its columns and stop supporting the Upper Tower on its foundations. The central building must decide whether to accept this friction and build a new structure that supports the Upper Tower, which, of course, wants to continue belonging to the governance of the central building.  Parties have different opinions and points of view about it, so the people at The Cloisters must vote.

Meanwhile, media and news channels have already warned of their concern about the sudden isolation that this would imply for the Lower Tower. They would not have the help of the central building anymore, the Masonic house will withdraw its networking for them and would be exempt from contact with the exterior of the building since that territory can be accessed from the exterior through the central building only. However, the independence government of the lower tower has already announced an upcoming study to open one of the windows (sealed many years ago for structural reasons) if they are not supporting the Upper Tower their structure can handle again an opening toward outside, opening a contact with Letchworth city out of the control of the Central Building. In addition to this, and promoting international trading: they propose to install a cashier and turn that small window into an off-license, specialised in TOWER OBJECTS(*).
